Internship programs open the door for students and graduates to experience a company’s culture, roll up their sleeves and learn to contribute as a part of a team. A great program can turn interns into employees who can later become the executives of tomorrow.
Do you remember how you felt during your first interview for an internship? How about the team that helped navigate your first work experience?
If all this sounds familiar, join us in celebrating National Intern Day on July 29th.
Here at Flex, we value internship programs that shape the talent pool, building bridges between formal education systems and real-life work environments.
In 2020, our internship programs were marked by uncertainty. Prioritizing the health and safety of our employees and interns became our primary concern. In 2021, we once again welcomed students and graduates to many of our sites, from North America to Europe and Asia. To learn more about Flex internships, we asked a few of our current and previous interns to share their experiences.
What is it like to be an intern at Flex?
Every career starts with a first step: the attraction of a great opportunity. That’s what Qudus Liasu learned when he applied to a QA internship in Austin, TX.
“As an intern at Flex, I can see the applications of concepts of what I learned in school on a larger scale. I am able to interact, collaborate, and learn from many people from different backgrounds on the floor. I enjoy the coffee talks we have, and hearing the success stories from corporate executives is inspiring.”
I like the sense of inclusiveness I get from my managers, mentor, line leads, and operators. There is always someone there to guide and help with what I need.
— Qudus Liasu, QA Intern, Flex Austin
On the other side of the world, Raluca Fieraru, just completed her internship in Flex Timişoara, Romania. Raluca joined the Engineering team on the manufacturing floor.
“A day in my life as an intern was about learning what needed work in the processes assigned.”
Every day was marked by curiosity, lots of questions, and plenty of support.
— Raluca Fieraru, Manufacturing Intern, Flex Timişoara
“Flex is the first manufacturing company where I interned,” she says. “As a curious person, I had so many questions. My colleagues were very supportive, guiding me throughout the internship. With their help, I was able to learn and understand the processes in a manufacturing environment.”
In Malaysia, we talked to Kosigan Vadivelu, who just started his IT internship.
“As a student, I am fortunate to have earned the opportunity to intern at Flex, a well-regarded corporation. The people I work with and who have trained me are professionals with great work ethics.”
As an intern, I can voice my opinion and feel valued and included in the team. I’m confident this experience has made me a better student and is leading me on a path to become a great IT professional.
— Kosigan Vadivelu, IT Intern, Flex Malaysia
What did you learn during your Flex internship?
During his internship, Qudus learned about quality inspection processes. He provided new ideas for the final inspection and collaborated with operators and line leads to improve handling and inspection procedures.
Every day is different, which makes it exciting and fun. My project is about implementing a paperless QA checklist in services, improvements for final inspection, and quality inspection.
— Qudus Liasu
For Raluca, the internship opened a whole new world of opportunities and created more excitement towards pursuing a career in a manufacturing company.
There was never a dull moment. Every day I learned something new. The team helped develop my analytical thinking on a deeper level. I learned how teams and processes are dependent on each other. As a result, people at Flex always help each other.
— Raluca Fieraru
“They dedicate as much time as needed to improve a process and make it more efficient,” Raluca added. “If somebody has a question, there is another colleague who will answer or guide to where one can find help.”
In the IT department, Kosigan is eager to learn and receive a hands-on experience in managing IT networks and service support systems.
“I’m learning how to use network monitor applications to improve the process of managing a network environment, scanning all devices, and setting up alerts to uncover issues before they become problems.”
I’m also included in the daily tasks of the service support system used to help our employees get the services they need.
— Kosigan Vadivelu
