We’re committed to caring for our planet. Reducing our environmental impact through sustainable operations is part of our mission, and our employees are key to delivering on this beyond the manufacturing floor to our communities. We also help our customers design and build products that improve the world.
Adopting practices to safeguard the environment
On April 22, the world celebrated the fifty-first anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event committed to environmental protections. We celebrated throughout the month of April, including our Earth Day @ Home. We asked employees to share photos showcasing how they’re helping to mitigate climate change. We also hosted a webinar on Earth Day, focusing on our sustainability strategy and 2030 goals, as well as our participation in the Science Based Targets Initiative.
On Earth Day we strengthened our commitment to restore our planet through new, aggressive environmental targets. For Flex, we recognize our place in the value chain gives us an opportunity to lead and catalyze progress at scale.

Thinking globally, acting locally
Our Earth Day @ Home campaign brought together employees from 47 sites and 19 countries to share their love for the earth via our internal social media platform.
For the Earth Day Challenge, our sites went the extra mile with 273 different activities and projects with nearly 40,000 employees participating from 23 countries. Each site designed their activities to meet their community’s needs and resulted in the support of 38 non-profit organizations, the reforesting of nearly 300,000 square feet of land and the cleaning of 470 acres.
Our employees learned about the value of massive land restorations and how to separate waste for recycling, create a home garden and organic farms on-site, rake and sow soil to plant flower seeds and trees, and more. Thousands of volunteers invested nearly 6,000 hours toward these efforts.
Here are some regional highlights from our winning Earth Day teams.
Americas winner
Manaus, Brazil
With safety top of mind, the Manaus, Brazil site had an amazing participation of 1,355 employees who took part in 11 activities. This included the planting of 1,340 fruit trees, a donation for flood relief related to a riverside in the Amazon, and a recycling-from-home campaign, where employees used social media to share their unique ways of recycling.
EMEA winner
Budapest, Hungary
One of our largest sites in EMEA – Budapest, Hungary – developed six activities with the main event focused on landscaping. More than 60 employees volunteered their time to renew the facility’s garden. They repotted indoor plants and planted flowers outdoors to attract bees, as well as planted 15 Linden trees, which are native to the region. They also held a “show your garden or balcony” contest and had several environment-related workshops and webinars for employees working from home.
Asia winner
Chennai, India
With 16 different activities, the Chennai site created the perfect environment for Earth Day. To make sure all employees felt the spirt of Earth Day, they placed theme-decorated stands in all four receptions areas. Employees also renovated 5,000 square feet of unused land to become an organic farm. The resulting food will be used in the canteen. In addition, they planted 4,050 trees to cover 4.5 abandoned acres, donated 625 trees, and planted 140 additional trees at a local school and a non-profit organization.
Special Mention
FuYong, Shenzhen, China
This site did some out-of-the-box thinking. They created two amazing videos to share on social media. One was about the correct way to separate waste and segregate them for recycling. The other captured their on-site Earth Day activities. More than 33,000 community members viewed their videos, bringing attention to this important day. To have greater impact, they also installed an on-site intelligent sorting trash can and organized a clean-up drive at a local lake.
Thank you to our incredible Flex family. We’re proud of our employees’ volunteerism and commitment to a cleaner and healthier world, as well as their contributions toward our 2030 sustainability goals.
